Well, there is a certain marriage amendment bill for same sex couples in Australia. And I wrote a poem about it last night.
MARRIAGE AMENDMENT BILL 2004 (SENATE)
Date: 8-12-04 Votes: For=38 Against=6
* amend the Marriage Act 1961 to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life; and to confirm that unions solemnised overseas between same sex couples will not be recognised as marriages in Australia (Schedule 1); and
* amend the Family Law Act 1975 to prevent inter-country adoptions by same sex couples under multilateral or bilateral agreements or arrangements (Schedule 2).
My One
I love One.
Who I can never marry
in this country I adored.
My feelings for my One
are recognised.
Accepted maybe,
or cast aside.
I long to hold my One,
with rings on left hands,
and an ever-growing love between us.
But it shall never be.
My One and I
shall always be separate
in this country I called home.
Why should we
move aside,
when other couples walk
hand in hand?
Bound by spoken words,
and signed name.
I desire the answer.
And yet I do not wish
to hear it from mouths
who disagree.
With Me.
And my One.

And yeah...stupid ammendment.
Australia is supposed to be this place where you can take refuge, it's a beautiful place...
...meanwhile, we're locking people up in 'refugee camps', and same sex couples can't marry. AND John Howard isn't exactly the most gay-friendly person in the world. And he's LIBERAL! *mutters*
